Rasyad Chung

Rasyad Chung is an all around bad ass.   Aside from the fact that he learned to skate a halfpipe at the age of 50, he was also the first person to ever ride a kayak at Mavericks.  Since nobody had ever done it before there weren't exactly "Mavericks ready" kayaks he could buy so he custom made a kayak of his own design (with a paint job that looks like it came straight out of Saved By The Bell).  I think that's a pretty good reason for Canoe & Kayak Magazine to do a feature on him.

Rasyad was gracious enough to get up early enough to make it over to Ocean Beach from his East Bay home by 6:30am.  Of course, the "amazing sunrise" we were looking for was thwarted  (as usual) by the typically foggy weather in the Sunset district.  But, you have to hope for the best.  I still like the lighting and think it gives the images a calmness you must feel just before dropping in on a huge wave in a way that nobody in the world has ever done before.
