Elixir San Francisco

Elixer Shea Shawnson for Whiskey Advocate Magazine

Shooting for Whiskey Advocate can have its perks.  Last month I was asked to photograph a couple bars and their bartender's specialty drink for the current issue.  The first up was Elixir in the Mission District of San Francisco.  We met Shea Shawnson for an early morning shoot at the bar.  Shea got right to pouring drinks while we were setting up.  He gave us a taste us some small batch bourbons that were particularly strong for 9:30am (or any time for that matter).  Then he got on to making his signature drink, the Napa Creole, which is made with Double & Twisted Whiskey.

Of course we had to have him make the drink more than a few times to make sure we got the shot.  I'd say in all I had 3, my assistant had a couple and Shea had a couple himself.  Not bad for a morning's work.  We then went across the way for a Panchita 3's burrito; something I usually only eat at 2am.  It seemed appropriate.

Just for fun:
